Aikido for Kids
Aikido is a self-defensive martial art originating in Japan. It is unlike most other martial arts which seek to meet aggression with an equally aggressive, opposing force. Instead, aikidoka (practitioners of Aikido) train to blend with an incoming attack and control the aggressor with their own momentum and energy. Aikido is known as the “Art of Peace.”

In this ongoing monthly curriculum, students will be introduced to Aikido, its style of movement and some of its practical self-defense (and escape) techniques. Incorporated into the program is the learning of Aikido-related Japanese words, and numbers (counting) as well as common greetings and conversational phrases. Aikido Bismarck's kids program is not only a friendly atmosphere of fun, games and exercise, it is also a place where courtesy, kindness, respect, and cooperation are taught and reinforced.
